In School Program
Carver High School's School of the Arts in the city of Atlanta
is the home of the Urban Youth Harp Ensemble.
The
UYHE Harp Academy at Carver allows for intense study of the harp, while
emphasizing skills which will be invaluable to the students' academic and
personal achievement.
In
2005-2006, 13 Carver students participated in in-school private instruction,
ensemble practice, and harp camp in summer 2006. Currently
the day classes at Carver reach over 60 students from grades 9-12. Although the
students receive 90 minutes of instruction 3 days a week, many of these same
students continue to take advantage of the after-school classes for harp
enrichment.
We
have tailored the program to the specific needs of the students at Carver.
Students will benefit greatly from the greater intensity of our new structure;
daily instruction and/or practice on the harp will help students catch up to a
general standard of high-school level playing on the harp. Additionally,
Thursdays will be focused on applied music theory on the harp, assisting those
students new to reading music.
